Overview

We have a career opportunity for an Environmental Field Technician to join our team!


The successful candidate performs a variety of duties, including collection of samples from routine and non-routine locations, including from bridges, manholes, wells, and within industrial facilities; sample preparation and preservation in accordance with EPA-accepted methods; routine and non-routine inspection and maintenance of monitoring equipment; routine and non-routine calibration of monitoring equipment; routine and non-routine housekeeping and cleaning of work spaces and equipment; investigation and inspection of field sites for compliance with regulations; and documentation and reporting of activities to support compliance and enforcement programs including the potential to testify in legal cases.

Minimum Salary: $52,100 (Grade 6)

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, collects water, storm water, groundwater, sludge, and residuals samples according to schedule and use automatic sampling equipment to perform basic field and/or laboratory tests required for compliance and routine operation.  Incumbent will maintain complete and accurate records of test collection and field results.
  • Assists with water main sterilization and water main sampling activities as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • Associate’s Degree and/or sufficient experience of at least two (2) years acceptable by management.  
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Must have ability to move equipment/packages weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and up to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance. Position requires regular deployment of sampling equipment that requires lowering and lifting.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals including proper completion of Chain-of-Custody forms and documentation of sample collection methods.
  • Ability to adhere to Company policies and procedures and ability to quickly develop proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Must be able to work outdoors during adverse weather conditions and to traverse difficult terrain.
  • Work days may vary, forty (40) hours per week. Position would also be part of a scheduled on-call rotation that includes coverage for nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:      

  • Understanding of sampling protocol required by EPA Standard Methods and standard operating procedures.
