Overview

We have an opportunity for a Paralegal Intern to join our team!

 

The Paralegal Intern works closely with the legal department’s in-house attorneys and paralegal in support of a variety of legal matters, including cases pending before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) and state and federal courts. The position will also support drafting, research, and other functions related to the organization’s existing and prospective contracts. The position may also be given assignments regarding other areas of law, including environmental law, employment law, and other areas.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and litigation of cases before the IURC and state and federal courts, including assisting with discovery (interrogatories and production of documents), preparing filings, and managing case files.
  • Assist with reviewing, drafting, and managing contracts.
  • Assist with research and analysis of legal questions regarding a variety of areas of law.
  • Assist with management of software tools used by the legal department, including Thomson Reuters Legal Tracker and Westlaw products, Jaggaer contract management software, and Microsoft Office products.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in college or university paralegal studies program.
  • Strong technology and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple assignments and tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

Preferred Skills/Qualifications                    

 

Experience in one or more of the following substantive areas of law:

  • Trust law
  • Utility law (rate case management, GCAs, FACs, special contract approvals, etc.)
  • Contracts
  • Transactional (stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, leases, licenses, etc.)
  • Employment and labor law (EEOC, collective bargaining agreements, etc.)
  • Litigation (tort and commercial)
