Overview

We have a career opportunity for a Meter Reader FT to join our team!

 

 

Reads customers’ gas, water and steam meters according to scheduled routes manually as well as through a
driving Automated Remote Reading Systems. Records readings on a hand-held device. Watches for, identifies 
and reports any gas and/or water leaks or other irregularities in meter service or Citizens Energy Group 
facilities. Works directly with customers to gain access to meters, resolve reading issues, and answers
questions. Maintains a high read accuracy rate and read completion rate while minimizing customer 
inconvenience and complaints. Provide field training and guidance to new hires and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Salary: $47,800 (Grade 5)

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read gas, water and steam meters on scheduled routes while maintaining routes 
    through sequencing. Provide field training and guidance to new hires and other 
    duties as assigned. 
  • Works directly with customers to gain access to meters, resolve reading issues,
    and answers questions, identify and audit pit condition issues, meter issues, 
    provide hang tags to inform customers
  • Watch for, identify, and report gas and water leaks, irregularities and report
    theft
  • Driving of employee provided vehicle. Clerical Work (mileage reports,
    timecards, update meter location in system)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Have a valid Indiana Driver's License
  • Must be available for training and have ability to work flexible full-time hours.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must pass and participate in the random Drug & Alcohol program in accordance with 
    Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administrative (PHMSA) Regulations 49 CFR Part 199 (PHMSA drug and alcohol testing regulation) and 49 CFR Part 40 (DOT drug and alcohol testing regulation)

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Prior Part Time Meter Reader or Operations Generalist Experience
  • Previous Delivery or Route experience is preferred.
  • Previous Outside Work experience is preferred
  • Previous Customer Service experience is preferred.
  • Fluent reading and speaking English and Spanish is a plus

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in inclement weather and other conditions including but not limited 
    to lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pushing and pulling.
