Overview

We have an exciting career opportunity for a Shift Coordinator to join our team! 

 

The Shift Coordinator for steam will oversee daily plant operations of the district energy high pressure boiler plant including employee scheduling, providing direction, leadership, safety, and training (includes allocating workload, shift briefings, internal and external customer issues, provide technical knowledge to operations and maintenance personnel). This position will check equipment, perform preventative maintenance, test fire boilers, run boiler water tests at remote Chiller Boiler Plant (CBP). They will also perform Reporting and record keeping (including recording information into shift log, entering data from Covanta, NPDES, work orders) while monitoring plant operations, quality of steam, environmental compliance, maintain plant equipment, and ensuring NPDES permitting limits are within range. This position will coordinate fuel usage, steam line outages, plant maintenance, and equipment overhaul with appropriate personnel. They will need to follow established Standard Operating Procedures and create new Standard Operating Procedures as necessary. The Shift Coordinator will coordinate and administer lockout-tagout system within the plant to ensure safety of staff and equipment.

Minimum Salary: $75,200 (Grade 9)

Responsibilities

  • Monitor plant operations for operational limits, environmental compliance, safe work practices.
  • Training and coaching direct reports.
  • Troubleshooting systems and equipment.
  • Administer lockout tagout system by holding and releasing equipment as necessary.
  • Planning, organizing and record keeping.
  • Effective communication with internal and external customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Preventative and corrective equipment maintenance.
  • Safety and equipment inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned by O&M Manager.
  • Completion of daily housekeeping duties.

Qualifications

  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must have 10 years of experience in a power plant that includes high pressure utility size boilers, steam turbine generators, and boiler water treatment systems
  • Must have 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of power plant safety policies and procedures, especially in the areas of high-energy systems, chemical handling, heavy equipment, rotating machinery, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, and first aid.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of or ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC and DC electrical theory, chemistry, water treatment process, thermal dynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding operation of valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plants.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply technical information, including mechanical and electrical drawings (such as blueprints,
  • P&IDs, single-line diagrams and schematics) to problem-solving situations and trouble-shooting.
  • Ability to locate, trouble-shoot, and adjust defects in mechanical and electrical systems and equipment without “tripping” equipment.
  • Must have previous experience as a control room operator in power plant setting
  • Demonstrate experience with LOTO systems
  • Be able to work a rotating 24/7 shift-work schedule

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Two-year degree in engineering or related field technical field
  •  Ability to communicate and coordinate work on technical subjects with others across job families and with outside vendors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and prior hands-on trouble-shooting and repair experience relating to instrumentation and control systems used in modern power stations, including burner management, combustion control, boiler controls, turbine controls, machine condition monitoring, and continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS).
  • Outstanding skill in leadership and interpersonal relationships.
  • Extensive knowledge of natural gas, oil fired, and steam technologies preferred.
  • Experience with CMMS systems
  • Experience with managing Union employees
