Senior Manager Accounting

We have an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Manager Accounting to join our team!

The successful candidate manages day-to-day accounting activities in accordance with the organization’s accounting policies and procedures. Directs and monitors a variety of accounting activities to ensure the organization’s financial resources are managed in accordance with accounting principles and comply with all relevant regulations, laws, and standards. These activities may include financial analysis and reporting; budgeting; internal control assessments; reconciliations; and regulatory compliance filings. Reviews financial reports and accounting statements to ensure their accuracy. Provides technical expertise and advice to functional or operational areas managers to help them develop expense budgets, understand financial reports, and manage their financial responsibilities. Leads, directs, evaluates, and develops a team of accounting professionals to ensure accounting activities are completed accurately and on time. Reviews or prepares accounting research papers for unusual or complex accounting transactions in consideration of applicable standards per GAAP, FERC, or NARUC. Responsible for the supervision of other Accounting personnel.

Minimum Salary: $132,300 (Grade 14)

• Manages the day-to-day accounting activities and monthly closing process, including preparation of variance explanations and accounting position papers. Meeting established deadlines is crucial.
• Provides support during quarterly financial reporting activities, including flux explanations, disclosure information. Meeting established deadlines is crucial.
• Prepares annual budget, long range forecast, and monthly business unit forecasts. Provides analytical support during regulatory and rate case proceedings.
• Provides technical expertise and advice to functional or operational area managers.
• Engage in employee development, coaching, teaching, and leading. Assist direct reports in problem-solving of day-to-day activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration, or equivalent experience (minimum ten years).
• At least eight years of practical professional experience in one or more areas of accounting with demonstrated ability to apply accounting theory, principles and techniques.
• Computer proficiency with standard office software (documents, spreadsheets, presentations).
• Effective communication and analytical skills.
• Organizational skills.
• Understanding of GAAP, internal controls, FERC, and NARUC.
• Presentation and interpretation of financial statements.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

• Utility/regulatory experience.
• Experience writing queries and extracting data.
• Legal structure of the Utility and its subsidiaries.
• Knowledge of Citizens Energy Group policies, practices, and procedures.
• Leadership training based on principles similar to Situational Leadership, Social Styles, or Leadership Challenge.
• CPA, CMA, CIA certification is desirable.
