Overview

We have an exciting career opportunity for an Engineer (I/II) to join our team!

 

Vacancy will be filled at Engineer I or Engineer II level based on candidate experience.

 

The successful candidate reports through the Program & Technical Services (P&TS) department. P&TS is responsible for the oversight of program and process controls, standards, utility coordination, underground asset management, hydraulic modeling, and overall GIS data and analysis. This position will focus on hydraulic flow modeling of the water distribution system.

 

Engineer I

Entry level engineer. Under close supervision, performs preliminary design engineering, water distribution system flow modeling, and data analysis. Applies knowledge to prescribed techniques and procedures to complete project assignments.

 

Engineer II

Intermediate level engineer. Under general supervision, performs all aspects of conventional preliminary design engineering, water distribution system flow modeling, and data analysis. Broadens knowledge and skill set in area of discipline. May begin expanding knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas.

Salary: Engineer I-Grade 8 (Minimum $67,000/year) or Engineer II- Grade 9 (Minimum $75,200/year) 

Responsibilities

Engineer I

  • Develops familiarity by reading, understanding, and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Citizens policies and procedures.
  • Develops an understanding and complies with the Citizens Quality Program. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Contributes to preparation of less complex preliminary engineering deliverables. Performs routine research and develops recommendations for distribution system optimization.  Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering and hydraulic modeling work.  Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Shares information with others as requested. Coordinates with others when directed by supervisor or project leadership.
  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client’s main interests and drivers. May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
  • Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Engineer II

  • Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Citizens policies and procedures.
  • Begins to apply knowledge and complies with Citizens Quality Program relative to assigned tasks. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Prepares moderately complex preliminary engineering deliverables. Performs complex research and develops recommendations for distribution system optimization.  Collects, assimilates, analyzes, and manages data for engineering and hydraulic modeling work.  Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.  May provide direction and guidance to others.
  • Assigns tasks and coordinates with other internal/external team members on less complex projects. Initiates contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of the work.
  • Actively seeks to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contract and interaction and communication with project leadership. Applies understanding of client interests and drivers to performance of the work under his/her responsibility.  May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
  • Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Engineer I

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from either an ABET accredited program or a recognized accredited program in their home country, or sufficient education acceptable by management.
  • Valid driver’s license in the United States, or alternate approved by management. State of Indiana driver’s license required within 30 days of first day of employment.
  • Must have a safe driving record including no history of serious traffic violations, accidents, suspensions/revocations, or DUI/DWI convictions within the last three years.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Completion of engineering training program.
  • Basic knowledge of distribution hydraulic modeling, engineering design and applicable guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline. Basic knowledge of Citizens Quality Program, construction and constructability practices, and principles.
  • General understanding and ability to work with computer software in a Windows environment. Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting. Ability to work in office and field environment. A basic understanding of utility systems.

 

Engineer II

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from either an ABET accredited program or a recognized accredited program in their home country, or sufficient education acceptable by management.
  • 2 years of related experience or 1 year of Citizens experience.
  • Valid driver’s license in the United States, or alternate approved by management. State of Indiana driver’s license required within 30 days of first day of employment.
  • Must have a safe driving record including no history of serious traffic violations, accidents, suspensions/revocations, or DUI/DWI convictions within the last three years.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Completion of engineering training program.
  • Intermediate knowledge of distribution hydraulic modeling, engineering design, and applicable guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline. Intermediate ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.  Basic knowledge of Citizens Quality Program, construction and constructability practices, and principles.
  • Experienced in computer software in a Windows environment, Microsoft Office applications, ESRI applications, and Oracle databases.  Ability to work in office and field environment.  Detailed understanding of utility systems.
